Naughton was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, Brenda’s daughter, a temporary lawyer, and Ezra Naughton, a retired accountant. Her father came from St. Louis. Croix Us Virgin Island, West Indies and her mother is from Raleigh, North Carolina. Her musical talent came at the age of five, when she joined her church choir at New Hope Baptist Church (the same church where Whitney Houston performed in her youth) in Newark, New Jersey.

She continued her music studies at the Newark School of the Arts. She attended St. John’s Catholic School. Joseph and Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, New Jersey. She has sung the national anthem at various events in New Jersey and studied at Seton Hall University.

In 1999, at the age of 15, Naughton joined Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams to form the 3LW team. Their first song “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right)”, was released in the fall of 2000. “No More” was a success and was followed by “Playas Gon ‘Play” in early 2001.

The band’s first album, 3LW, was released on December 5, 2000. The album went platinum, sold 1.3 million copies in the US In the summer of 2001, the band went on tour with MTV TRL and Destiny’s Child , Dream, Nelly, Eve, and Jessica Simpson.

3LW spent the first half of 2002 in the studio, recording an album titled Same Game, Different Rules. The album and its one-hit single “Uh Oh” have been released on the label, feeling like it doesn’t have enough urban radio appeal. Tracks from the same game, Different Rules are streamed online in MP3 format, and Epic considered dropping the band.

In August 2002, the band was about to release their new LP, A Girl Can Mack, when Naughton announced she was no longer a member of the band. Naughton claims that two other girls and their bosses forced her out. The problems came to a head after a heated argument with Williams, Bailon and their manager, who allegedly led Williams to throw a hot plate full of KFC food in Naughton.

Epic Records then terminated their relationship with both 3LW and Naughton. In addition to Naughton’s departure both Bailon and Williams resumed as a team for a short time and later Jessica Benson replaced Naughton. The group has disbanded. In May 2017, he reunited with his co-worker Bailon in the afternoon interview with The Real, who promoted the first game of the Power season.
